Are you Unbiased?

unbiased

One of the hardest things in the world to do is be unbiased about anything. You may think you are however, people are always both willingly and unwillingly swayed to one side of the spectrum or argument. I believe that there is not always a justified answer to everything in this world. In fact, I believe most of the time there is not a black and white conclusion to anything in life. We always find the need to either, not have an opinion because of lack of knowledge nor interest, or to sway to one side of the argument already existing. I purpose that the only way to come to a realistic interpretation of the matter, would be to analyze both sides and form your own opinion based on what you have learned. As a result, forming your own critically analyzed opinion of the matter, instead of tagging along with previous arguments that may go nowhere.

We tend to form our opinions from multiple factors in our life. Culture, religion, social status, nature, and nurture. Everything that makes us the way we are can be factored into what we believe. In a sense, the theory is stated as so, “How you are raised, is how you will turn out”. This is all fine, and something that we can’t control. However, we need to understand that not everyone goes through the same experiences as we do in life. There are some things that we do not know, not because we are unintelligent yet, but because we haven’t experienced it to this point. So when you form an opinion on something based on how you were raised and on what you know, you need to take into consideration that your beliefs are not the optimal ones. You are just one person living one life.

I believe that people need to take a step in another person’s shoes before formulating an adequate opinion about anything. You need to take a step back from your own reality and life experiences and try to see how other people think, and not automatically think that they’re lying or that their experiences are anything less than yours. There are 7 billion ways to live a life, and none of those ways are particularly wrong in any sense. That’s why we need to analyze more, and not settle on one side of the argument because in actuality there could very well be 7 billion sides. Not everyone sees the world in the same light. In fact, no one does. So why is it important to remain unbiased about a situation? The answer is simple; because your biased standpoint may be hurting others.  Keeping an open mind about the world around you would do a whole lot of good for your well being, and for the individuals around you. Think, analyze, learn and understand and we can all make the world a better place.
